Indication

- Glucocorticoid replacement in adrenal insufficiency - Addison's disease - Congenital adrenal hyperplasia - Secondary (pituitary) adrenal insufficiency

Ingredients

• Hydrocortisone 10 mg

Direction

Dose individualized by the physician according to the daily cortisol requirement; usually taken orally in divided doses with the larger dose in the morning. Do not stop abruptly.

• Increased blood pressure
• Raised blood sugar
• Weight gain and Cushingoid features (long
• term use)
• Increased susceptibility to infection

Precautions

• Do not stop treatment abruptly (risk of acute adrenal crisis)
• Dose must be increased during stress
• infection
• surgery or trauma
• Caution in diabetes
• hypertension
• infection and peptic ulcer
• Monitor for signs of infection (immunosuppression)
