Indication
- Type 2 (non-insulin-dependent) diabetes mellitus - Used when diet, exercise and weight reduction alone are insufficient to control blood glucose
Ingredients
- Gliclazide 80 mg
Direction
Take orally with or just before the first main meal (usually breakfast). Dose is individualised by a physician; do not skip meals while taking this medicine.
Side effects
- Hypoglycaemia (low blood sugar)
- Nausea
- vomiting
- abdominal discomfort
- Weight gain
- Skin rash or itching
- Rarely
- blood disorders or liver enzyme changes
Precautions
- Risk of hypoglycaemia
- especially if meals are skipped or with alcohol
- Contraindicated in type 1 diabetes
- diabetic ketoacidosis and severe renal or hepatic impairment
- Use with caution in the elderly and in moderate kidney impairment
- Monitor blood glucose regularly
