Glucophage XR 750 mg

Indication

- Type 2 diabetes mellitus, especially in overweight adults - Used when diet and exercise alone do not control blood glucose - May be used alone or with other antidiabetic agents or insulin

Ingredients

• Metformin hydrochloride 750 mg (extended release)

Direction

Take once daily with the evening meal; swallow whole without crushing or chewing. Dose individualised by a physician, usually starting at 500 mg once daily.

Side effects

• Nausea
• vomiting and diarrhoea
• Abdominal discomfort and loss of appetite
• Metallic taste
• Vitamin B12 deficiency with long
• term use
• Rarely lactic acidosis

Precautions

• Contraindicated in moderate to severe renal impairment
• Stop before procedures using iodinated contrast media
• Avoid in conditions predisposing to lactic acidosis (dehydration
• severe infection
• hypoxia)
• Limit alcohol intake
