Indication
- Respiratory conditions with thick or excessive mucus - Mucolytic to loosen and thin mucus - Adjunct in chronic bronchitis and other productive coughs
Ingredients
- Acetylcysteine
Direction
Take orally as directed by a doctor, usually with or after food; effervescent forms are dissolved in water before drinking.
Side effects
- Nausea and vomiting
- Diarrhea or stomach upset
- Headache
- Allergic skin reactions (rare)
Precautions
- Use with caution in patients with peptic ulcer or asthma
- Avoid in known hypersensitivity to acetylcysteine
- Consult a doctor if pregnant or breastfeeding
- Separate dosing from certain antibiotics by 2 hours
