Rocaltrol 0.25 mcg

Indication

Management of hypocalcemia and metabolic bone disease in patients on chronic renal dialysis. Treatment of hypoparathyroidism, pseudohypoparathyroidism, and vitamin D-dependent rickets. Prevention and treatment of secondary hyperparathyroidism in chronic kidney disease.

Ingredients

• Calcitriol 0.25 mcg

Direction

Adults: the usual starting dose is 0.25 mcg per day. Dosage adjustments are made at 2–4 week intervals based on serum calcium and phosphorus levels, as directed by the physician. Swallow capsule whole. Do not store above 25°C.

Side effects

• Hypercalcemia: weakness
• nausea
• vomiting
• anorexia
• Polyuria
• polydipsia
• Muscle weakness
• headache
• Calcification of soft tissues with prolonged hypercalcemia

Precautions

• Regular monitoring of serum calcium
• phosphate
• and renal function is required.
• Hypercalcemia may develop
• discontinue if calcium levels become elevated.
• Do not take additional vitamin D supplements without medical advice.
• Adequate fluid intake must be maintained.
• Prescription only.
