Indication

Treatment and prevention of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women. Treatment of glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis. Paget's disease of bone. Increases bone mass and reduces the incidence of fractures.

Ingredients

• Alendronate Sodium 10 mg

Direction

Adults: one tablet daily taken in the morning, at least 30 minutes before the first food, beverage, or other medication. Swallow whole with a full glass of plain water (180–240 mL). Do not lie down for at least 30 minutes after taking. As directed by the physician.

Side effects

• Esophageal irritation
• heartburn
• difficulty swallowing
• Abdominal pain
• nausea
• Musculoskeletal pain
• Hypocalcemia

Precautions

• Do not use in patients with esophageal abnormalities or inability to stand/sit upright for 30 minutes.
• Do not use in patients with hypocalcemia.
• Adequate calcium and vitamin D supplementation recommended.
• Osteonecrosis of the jaw reported rarely with bisphosphonate use.
• Prescription only.
