Metro-MS 500 mg

Indication

Nitroimidazole antibacterial/antiprotozoal. Indicated for amoebiasis (intestinal, asymptomatic, hepatic), trichomoniasis, giardiasis, and certain anaerobic bacterial infections (including Clostridium perfringens, Bacteroides fragilis).

Ingredients

• Metronidazole 500 mg

Direction

Intestinal amoebiasis (acute, symptomatic, histolytica): Adults 2 g in single dose at the start of a meal. Children 30 mg/kg/day in single dose for 1 day. Asymptomatic amoebiasis: same daily dose for 3 days. Hepatic amoebiasis: Adults 1.5 g/day in 1-2 doses at start of meal for 5 days. Follow the prescribed doses.

• Disulfiram
• like reaction with alcohol
• Peripheral neuropathy with prolonged use

Precautions

• Avoid alcohol during and 48 hours after treatment
• Caution in hepatic impairment
• Keep out of reach of children
• Store below 30°C
