- Obtaining a small capillary blood sample by skin puncture - Used with a lancing device for blood glucose self-monitoring - Fingerstick sampling for other point-of-care blood tests

Direction

Insert the sterile single-use lancet into a compatible lancing device, clean the fingertip, prick the side of the finger, collect the blood drop for testing, then discard the lancet safely in a sharps container.

• Pain or discomfort at the puncture site
• Minor bruising or bleeding
• Local infection if reused or aseptic technique is not maintained

Precautions

• For single use only
• never reuse or share lancets between people
• Do not use if the sterile seal is broken or past expiry
• Dispose of immediately in a puncture
