Indication
- Acute non-specific diarrhea - Traveler's diarrhea - Chronic diarrhea associated with inflammatory bowel disease - Reduction of ileostomy output
Ingredients
- Loperamide hydrochloride 2 mg
Direction
Adults: initially 4 mg, then 2 mg after each loose stool; do not exceed 8 mg/day for OTC use (16 mg/day under medical supervision).
Side effects
- Constipation
- Abdominal cramps or bloating
- Nausea
- Dizziness
- Dry mouth
Precautions
- Do not use in bloody or febrile (dysenteric) diarrhea
- Avoid in acute ulcerative colitis or bacterial enterocolitis
- Stop if no improvement within 48 hours
- Risk of serious cardiac events with overdose
