Augmentin 250mg/31.25mg

Indication

- Acute otitis media and sinusitis - Tonsillitis and pharyngitis - Lower respiratory tract infections such as bronchitis and pneumonia - Skin and soft tissue infections - Urinary tract infections

Ingredients

• Amoxicillin 250 mg / Clavulanic acid 31.25 mg (per 5 mL)

Direction

Dose depends on age, weight, and infection severity; the reconstituted suspension is usually given two to three times daily, preferably at the start of a meal. Shake well before use and complete the full prescribed course.

Side effects

• Diarrhoea and nausea
• Vomiting and indigestion
• Skin rash and itching
• Oral or vaginal candidiasis (thrush)
• Allergic reactions
• rarely severe

Precautions

• Contraindicated in penicillin allergy
• Use with caution in patients with a history of liver dysfunction or jaundice with amoxicillin/clavulanate
• Adjust dose in renal impairment
• May reduce effectiveness of oral contraceptives
