Indication
- Otitis media (middle ear infection) - Pharyngitis and tonsillitis - Acute bronchitis and exacerbations of chronic bronchitis - Uncomplicated urinary tract infections - Uncomplicated gonorrhoea
Ingredients
- Cefixime 100 mg/5 mL
Direction
Shake well before use. Usual pediatric dose is 8 mg/kg/day given once daily or in two divided doses. Complete the full prescribed course even if symptoms improve.
Side effects
- Diarrhoea and loose stools
- Nausea and abdominal pain
- Headache or dizziness
- Skin rash
- Rarely
- allergic reactions including hypersensitivity
Precautions
- Avoid in patients with known cephalosporin allergy
- Use with caution in penicillin
- allergic patients (cross
- reactivity)
- Use with caution in renal impairment
- Prolonged use may cause superinfection or antibiotic
- associated diarrhoea
