Indication

- Schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders - Acute and chronic manic states - Tics and vocal utterances of Tourette's disorder - Severe behavioural and agitation problems

Ingredients

• Haloperidol 5 mg

Direction

Take by mouth as prescribed by a doctor; dose is individualised and started low then adjusted according to response. Do not stop abruptly.

Side effects

• Movement disorders (tremor
• rigidity
• restlessness
• dystonia)
• Drowsiness and sedation
• Dry mouth
• constipation and blurred vision
• Weight gain and hormonal changes
• QT prolongation and irregular heartbeat

Precautions

• May cause extrapyramidal symptoms
• tardive dyskinesia and neuroleptic malignant syndrome
• Use caution in cardiac disease
• risk of QT prolongation
• Avoid alcohol and CNS depressants
• may impair driving
• Caution in elderly with dementia (increased mortality)
• epilepsy
• and liver impairment
