Indication

- Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in children aged 6 years and over - ADHD in adolescents and adults as part of a comprehensive treatment programme - Used when remedial measures alone prove insufficient

Ingredients

• Methylphenidate hydrochloride 10 mg

Direction

Take by mouth; dose is individually titrated by the physician, usually starting low and increased gradually, given once or twice daily before meals.

Side effects

• Insomnia
• nervousness and headache
• Decreased appetite and weight loss
• Increased heart rate and blood pressure
• Abdominal pain
• nausea and dry mouth
• Mood changes
• irritability or anxiety

Precautions

• Cardiovascular assessment needed before treatment
• avoid in serious heart disease
• Use with caution in patients with history of psychiatric disorders
• seizures or hypertension
• Monitor growth
• blood pressure
• heart rate and mood
• risk of dependence/misuse
• Avoid in patients taking or who recently took MAO inhibitors
