Indication
Aminoglycoside antibiotic indicated for the treatment of serious infections caused by susceptible Gram-negative organisms, including urinary tract, respiratory tract, skin and soft tissue, bone, and intra-abdominal infections, and septicaemia.
Ingredients
- Gentamicin Sulphate 80 mg per 2 ml ampoule
Direction
For IM or IV injection. Dose and duration as directed by the physician.
Side effects
- Nephrotoxicity (renal impairment
- especially with prolonged use).
- Ototoxicity including hearing loss
- tinnitus or vertigo.
- Neuromuscular blockade in susceptible patients.
- Pain or induration at the injection site.
- Allergic skin reactions
- stop use and consult a doctor or pharmacist if a reaction occurs.
Precautions
- Prescription antibiotic
- use only under medical supervision.
- Do not use in patients with known hypersensitivity to aminoglycosides.
- Use with caution in patients with renal impairment
- hearing or vestibular disorders
- or neuromuscular disease.
- Monitor serum drug levels during prolonged therapy.
- Consult a doctor or pharmacist before use
- especially during pregnancy or breastfeeding
- and stop if irritation or allergy occurs.
