Indication
Tetracycline antibiotic for the treatment of susceptible bacterial infections including respiratory tract, urogenital tract, skin, and certain sexually transmitted and rickettsial infections; also used for acne and as malaria prophylaxis.
Ingredients
- Doxycycline (as Hyclate) 100 mg per capsule
Direction
For oral use. Refer to the package insert for dosage and other information. Dosage as directed by the physician.
Side effects
- Nausea
- vomiting
- diarrhoea
- abdominal discomfort.
- Photosensitivity (sunburn
- like reaction on sun
- exposed skin).
- Oesophageal irritation or ulceration if not taken with sufficient water.
- Skin rash
- allergic reactions.
- Tooth discolouration in children under 12
- stop use and consult a doctor or pharmacist if a reaction occurs.
Precautions
- Prescription Only Medicine (POM)
- use only under medical supervision.
- Do not use in patients with known hypersensitivity to tetracyclines.
- Avoid in pregnancy
- breastfeeding
- and in children below 12 years (risk of permanent tooth discolouration and impaired bone growth).
- Use with caution in patients with hepatic impairment.
- Source of capsule: Bovine. Consult a doctor or pharmacist before use and stop if irritation or allergy occurs.
