Indication
Reduces the production of uric acid. Used to treat gout and certain types of kidney stones, and to prevent high uric acid levels caused by some cancer chemotherapy treatments.
Ingredients
- Allopurinol
Direction
Take the tablets whole with a large glass of water after meals, as prescribed by your doctor.
Side effects
- May cause skin rash
- nausea
- vomiting
- diarrhoea or abnormal liver function tests.
- Stop the medicine and seek emergency care if a severe skin reaction (Stevens
- Johnson syndrome)
- swelling of the face/throat or difficulty breathing occur.
Precautions
- Consult a doctor or pharmacist before use
- especially if you have kidney or liver disease
- a history of severe skin reactions
- or are of Han Chinese
- Thai or Korean descent (HLA
- B*5801 risk).
- Tell your doctor if you take azathioprine
- mercaptopurine
- warfarin or theophylline.
- Do not use during pregnancy or breastfeeding unless your doctor decides it is essential.
- Stop use and seek medical advice if a skin rash
- fever
- mouth ulcers or signs of allergic reaction occur.
