Indication
A lipid-regulating agent used to lower high total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, apolipoprotein B and triglyceride levels, and to reduce the risk of cardiovascular events in patients with elevated lipids or other risk factors.
Ingredients
- Atorvastatin calcium trihydrate
Direction
As directed by the physician or see package insert for full prescribing information. Usually one tablet once daily, with or without food.
Side effects
- May cause headache
- abdominal pain
- constipation
- nausea
- muscle pain or abnormal liver enzymes.
- Seek immediate medical advice if severe muscle pain
- signs of liver problems (yellowing of skin or eyes)
- or allergic reactions occur.
Precautions
- Consult a doctor or pharmacist before use
- especially if you have liver disease
- kidney impairment
- hypothyroidism
- or a history of muscle disorders.
- Avoid large amounts of grapefruit juice and tell your doctor about all medicines you take
- including cyclosporine
- certain antibiotics
- antifungals and HIV protease inhibitors.
- Do not use during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
- Stop use and contact your doctor if unexplained muscle pain
- tenderness or weakness occurs
- particularly with fever or dark
- coloured urine.
