Indication

Treatment of essential hypertension in adults whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled on telmisartan alone. Fixed-dose combination of an angiotensin II receptor antagonist (Telmisartan) and a thiazide diuretic (Hydrochlorothiazide).

Ingredients
  • Telmisartan 40 mg
  • Hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg
Direction

Adults: take one tablet daily, swallowed whole with liquid, with or without food. Dose should be adjusted by a doctor based on blood pressure response.

Side effects
  • Common: dizziness
  • hypotension
  • hypokalaemia
  • hyperuricaemia
  • hyperglycaemia
  • headache.
  • Less common: rash
  • photosensitivity
  • gastrointestinal upset
  • fatigue
  • syncope.
  • Rare but serious: angioedema
  • acute renal failure
  • severe electrolyte disturbances
  • hepatic dysfunction
  • pancreatitis.
  • Stop use and seek medical attention immediately for swelling of the face
  • lips or tongue
  • severe rash
  • fainting
  • or sudden decrease in urine output.
Precautions
  • Prescription
  • only — use only under medical supervision.
  • Do not use in pregnancy (especially in the 2nd and 3rd trimesters) or breastfeeding.
  • Do not use in patients with anuria
  • severe hepatic impairment (Child
  • Pugh C)
  • cholestasis or biliary obstruction
  • severe renal impairment
  • refractory hypokalaemia
  • hypercalcaemia
  • or known hypersensitivity to telmisartan
  • hydrochlorothiazide
  • other sulphonamide
  • derived drugs
  • or any of the excipients.
  • Monitor renal function
  • serum electrolytes (especially potassium) and uric acid periodically.
  • Use with caution in patients with renal artery stenosis
  • congestive heart failure
  • primary aldosteronism
  • diabetes mellitus
  • or systemic lupus erythematosus.
  • Dehydration
  • salt depletion or concurrent use of other antihypertensives may cause symptomatic hypotension — drink adequate fluids.
