Indication
Short-term symptomatic treatment of moderate pain (especially in the post-operative setting) and fever, when intravenous administration is clinically justified — typically when oral administration is impossible or rapid onset is needed.
Ingredients
- Paracetamol 1 g per 100 ml bottle (10 mg/ml)
Direction
Administered by intravenous infusion by a healthcare professional, over 15 minutes. Adult dose: 1 g (100 ml) up to 4 times daily, with a minimum 4-hour interval between administrations; maximum daily dose 4 g. Cannot be used for children weighing less than 33 kg. Dose individualised by the prescriber.
Side effects
- Rare: hypersensitivity reactions
- including anaphylactic shock
- skin reactions
- hypotension
- malaise.
- Very rare: thrombocytopenia
- leucopenia
- neutropenia.
- Overdose causes severe liver damage (paracetamol hepatotoxicity) — seek immediate medical attention.
Precautions
- Prescription hospital product — to be administered by a healthcare professional only.
- Cannot be used for children weighing less than 33 kg.
- Do not exceed the maximum daily dose of 4 g (paracetamol overdose can cause severe liver damage).
- Use with caution in patients with hepatic impairment
- chronic alcoholism
- dehydration or chronic malnutrition.
- Concomitant use with other paracetamol
- containing products must be avoided.
- Discard any unused portion.
