Indication
Treatment of major depression. Also used for neuropathic pain, nocturnal enuresis in children over 6 years, and as adjunctive therapy for migraine prophylaxis.
Ingredients
- Amitriptyline hydrochloride
Direction
Adults: oral, initially 25 mg two to four times a day. The dosage can be adjusted by the physician as needed up to 150 mg a day. Adolescents and elderly: oral, 10 mg three times a day and 20 mg before bedtime, adjusted as needed. Children 6 to 12 years: oral, 10 to 30 mg a day in two divided doses or as directed by the physician. Swallow whole with water.
Side effects
- May include drowsiness
- dry mouth
- blurred vision
- constipation
- urinary retention
- dizziness
- weight gain
- and orthostatic hypotension. Stop use and consult a doctor or pharmacist immediately if you experience cardiac arrhythmia
- suicidal thoughts
- severe confusion
- or signs of allergic reaction.
Precautions
- Prescription
- only medicine. Use under medical supervision. Avoid abrupt discontinuation. Inform your doctor of any cardiovascular disease
- glaucoma
- urinary retention
- hyperthyroidism
- history of seizures or mania
- pregnancy
- or breastfeeding. Avoid alcohol. May impair the ability to drive or operate machinery. Consult a doctor or pharmacist before use if you have other medical conditions or are taking other medications.
