Indication

Lipid-regulating agent (fibrate); used to lower elevated triglycerides and raise HDL cholesterol in patients with dyslipidemia, particularly when there is high risk of pancreatitis.

Ingredients

• Gemfibrozil

Direction

As directed by a physician. Typical adult dose: 600 mg twice daily, 30 minutes before morning and evening meals.

Side effects

• May cause gastrointestinal upset
• headache
• dizziness
• muscle pain (rare rhabdomyolysis). Seek immediate care for unexplained muscle pain or weakness.

Precautions

• Prescription
• only medicine. Contraindicated in severe hepatic or renal impairment
• gallbladder disease. Caution when combined with statins (myopathy risk). Consult a doctor before use.
