Indication
Treatment of schizophrenia and other acute and chronic psychoses. Also used for moderate to severe manic episodes associated with bipolar I disorder, and for the prevention of recurrence of bipolar I disorder.
Ingredients
- Olanzapine
Direction
Adults: as directed by the prescribing physician. Typical starting dose 5 to 10 mg once daily, adjusted according to clinical response. Swallow tablets whole with water; may be taken with or without food.
Side effects
- May include weight gain
- drowsiness
- dizziness
- dry mouth
- constipation
- increased appetite
- and orthostatic hypotension. Stop use and consult a doctor or pharmacist immediately if you experience high fever with muscle stiffness
- severe confusion
- signs of high blood sugar (excessive thirst or urination)
- or uncontrolled movements (tardive dyskinesia).
Precautions
- Prescription
- only medicine. Inform your doctor of any cardiovascular disease
- diabetes
- history of seizures
- liver impairment
- or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. May cause weight gain and metabolic changes — monitoring of weight
- lipids
- and blood glucose is recommended. May impair the ability to drive or operate machinery. Consult a doctor or pharmacist before use if you have other medical conditions or are taking other medications.
