Indication

Treatment of major depressive episodes in adults.

Ingredients

• Mirtazapine

Direction

Adults: usual starting dose 15 to 30 mg once daily, preferably as a single dose at bedtime, adjusted by the physician up to a maximum of 45 mg per day. Swallow tablets whole with water. Read the leaflet before use.

Side effects

• May include increased appetite and weight gain
• drowsiness
• sedation
• dry mouth
• dizziness
• headache
• and constipation. Stop use and consult a doctor or pharmacist immediately if you experience fever
• sore throat
• mouth ulcers (signs of blood disorder)
• severe skin reactions
• suicidal thoughts
• or signs of liver problems (yellowing of the skin or eyes).

Precautions

• Prescription
• only medicine — to be dispensed only on medical prescription. Inform your doctor of any liver or kidney disease
• history of seizures
• glaucoma
• urinary retention
• cardiovascular disease
• history of mania
• or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Avoid abrupt discontinuation. May impair the ability to drive or operate machinery — do not drive without medical advice (warning level 2). Avoid alcohol. Consult a doctor or pharmacist before use if you have other medical conditions or are taking other medications.
