Indication

Short-term treatment of insomnia in adults — for situational, transient, or chronic insomnia where the severity of the disorder warrants treatment.

Ingredients

• Zolpidem tartrate

Direction

Adults under 65 years: 10 mg as a single dose immediately before bedtime. Elderly or patients with hepatic impairment: 5 mg at bedtime, increased to 10 mg only if needed and well tolerated. Treatment duration should be as short as possible — usually a few days to 2 weeks, with a maximum of 4 weeks including taper. Swallow tablets whole with water; do not take with or immediately after a meal.

Precautions

• Prescription
• only medicine (Liste I). Strict prescription duration of 28 days. Risk of dependence
• tolerance
• and rebound insomnia — avoid abrupt discontinuation. Do not use during pregnancy without medical advice. Avoid alcohol. May impair the ability to drive or operate machinery. Not recommended in patients with severe respiratory insufficiency
• severe sleep apnoea
• severe hepatic impairment
• myasthenia gravis
• or history of substance abuse. Consult a doctor or pharmacist before use if you have other medical conditions or are taking other medications.
