Indication
For symptomatic relief of indigestion. Treatment of gastric ulcer and traveller's diarrhoea. Symptomatic treatment of mild, nonspecific diarrhoea.
Ingredients
- Bismuth subsalicylate
Direction
Adults: 2 tablespoonfuls. Children 9 to 12 years: 1 tablespoonful. Children 6 to 9 years: 2 teaspoonfuls. Children 3 to 6 years: 1 teaspoonful. All doses 4 times daily, before meals and at bedtime. Under 3 years: as directed by the physician. Dosage may be repeated every 1/2 to 1 hour if needed, but a maximum of 8 doses per day should not be exceeded. Shake well before use.
Side effects
- May cause temporary blackening of the tongue and stools. Rare side effects include constipation
- tinnitus
- and hypersensitivity reactions. Stop use and consult a doctor or pharmacist if diarrhoea persists for more than 2 days
- you develop fever
- or any unusual reaction occurs.
Precautions
- Do not use in patients with hypersensitivity to salicylates (including aspirin)
- bleeding disorders
- or active gastrointestinal bleeding. Use with caution in children with viral infections (risk of Reye's syndrome). Consult a doctor or pharmacist before use during pregnancy or breastfeeding
- or if you are taking anticoagulants
- methotrexate
- or other salicylate
- containing products. Temporary blackening of the tongue and stools may appear while taking this medication.
