Indication
- Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus - Glycemic control in adults - Management of insulin resistance - Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (off-label)
Ingredients
- Metformin Hydrochloride
Direction
Take orally with or after meals to minimize gastrointestinal side effects. Usually started at a low dose and increased gradually as directed by a physician.
Side effects
- Nausea and vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Abdominal pain
- Metallic taste in mouth
- Vitamin B12 deficiency
Precautions
- Risk of lactic acidosis
- Contraindicated in severe kidney disease
- Monitor renal function regularly
- Avoid excessive alcohol consumption
- Discontinue before iodinated contrast imaging
