Indication

Creazithro is a macrolide antibiotic (azithromycin) used to treat mild to moderate bacterial infections, including community-acquired pneumonia, pharyngitis/tonsillitis, acute bacterial sinusitis, skin and soft-tissue infections, and certain sexually transmitted infections caused by susceptible organisms.

Ingredients
  • Azithromycin 500 mg per film
  • coated tablet
Direction

Oral route. Take as directed by a physician, usually once daily with or without food (may be taken with food if stomach upset occurs). A common adult course is 500 mg on day 1 followed by 250 mg once daily on days 2 to 5, or as prescribed. Comply with the prescribed doses and see the package insert for full prescribing information. On medical prescription only (Liste I).

Side effects
  • Diarrhoea or loose stools
  • nausea
  • abdominal pain or vomiting may occur.
  • Headache or dizziness.
  • Rarely
  • serious allergic reactions including anaphylaxis
  • angioedema and severe skin reactions (e.g. Stevens
  • Johnson syndrome).
  • Stop the medicine and seek medical attention immediately if signs of an allergic reaction occur
  • such as rash
  • swelling of the face
  • lips or tongue
  • or difficulty breathing.
Precautions
  • Do not use in patients allergic to azithromycin or other macrolide antibiotics.
  • Use with caution in patients with liver or kidney impairment
  • or with a known risk of QT
  • interval prolongation or heart rhythm problems.
  • May reduce the effectiveness of live bacterial vaccines such as typhoid vaccine
  • tell your doctor before any immunisation.
  • Tell your doctor about all other medicines being taken
  • and use during pregnancy only when clearly needed.
  • Consult a doctor or pharmacist before use
  • and stop use if irritation or an allergic reaction occurs.
