Indication
- Severe hypoglycemia treatment - Symptomatic insulin shock - Hyperkalemia management with insulin - Emergency caloric supplementation
Ingredients
- Glucose (Dextrose)
Direction
Administer via slow intravenous injection into a large central vein. Dosage is determined by patient weight and clinical status.
Side effects
- Venous thrombosis or phlebitis
- Hyperglycemia and glycosuria
- Fluid overload or pulmonary edema
- Osmotic diuresis
Precautions
- Avoid extravasation to prevent necrosis
- Monitor blood glucose levels frequently
- Contraindicated in intracranial hemorrhage
- Caution in patients with dehydration
