Indication
- High blood pressure (Hypertension) - Edema associated with heart failure - Edema related to hepatic cirrhosis - Fluid retention from renal dysfunction - Management of corticosteroid-induced edema
Ingredients
- Hydrochlorothiazide
Direction
Take orally once daily, usually in the morning with or without food to avoid nighttime urination.
Side effects
- Increased frequency of urination
- Dizziness or lightheadedness
- Headache
- Low potassium levels (hypokalemia)
- Orthostatic hypotension
- Photosensitivity (sun sensitivity)
Precautions
- Allergy to sulfonamide
- derived drugs
- Monitor for electrolyte imbalance
- Risk of dehydration
- May exacerbate gout symptoms
- Use caution in diabetic patients
- Contraindicated in patients with anuria
