Indication
- Edema related to heart failure - Essential hypertension - Congestive heart failure - Primary hyperaldosteronism - Hepatic cirrhosis with ascites - Nephrotic syndrome
Ingredients
- Spironolactone
Direction
Take orally as directed, usually once daily or in divided doses. It is recommended to take with food to enhance absorption and reduce stomach upset.
Side effects
- Hyperkalemia (high potassium)
- Gynecomastia (breast enlargement in men)
- Menstrual irregularities
- Dizziness or drowsiness
- Nausea or stomach cramps
Precautions
- Monitor blood potassium levels regularly
- Avoid potassium
- rich salt substitutes
- Contraindicated in severe kidney disease
- Risk of hyperkalemia with ACE inhibitors
- Caution during pregnancy or breastfeeding
