Indication
Treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus where blood sugar is not adequately controlled by diet, exercise, or a single oral antidiabetic agent. Glibenclamide stimulates insulin release from the pancreas while metformin reduces hepatic glucose production and improves insulin sensitivity.
Ingredients
- Glibenclamide 5 mg
- Metformin HCl 500 mg
Direction
For oral use. To be taken with meals. Dosage should be individualised by the physician and initiated at a low dose with gradual escalation to minimise the risk of hypoglycaemia and gastrointestinal upset.
Side effects
- Hypoglycaemia (low blood sugar)
- Nausea
- diarrhoea and stomach upset
- Altered taste and headache
- Rarely
- lactic acidosis associated with metformin
Precautions
- Consult a doctor or pharmacist before use and stop if irritation or allergy occurs.
- Use with caution in renal or hepatic impairment.
- Monitor blood glucose regularly to avoid hypoglycaemia.
