Diamide 5 mg / 500 mg

Indication

Treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus where blood sugar is not adequately controlled by diet, exercise, or a single oral antidiabetic agent. Glibenclamide stimulates insulin release from the pancreas while metformin reduces hepatic glucose production and improves insulin sensitivity.

Ingredients

• Glibenclamide 5 mg
• Metformin HCl 500 mg

Direction

For oral use. To be taken with meals. Dosage should be individualised by the physician and initiated at a low dose with gradual escalation to minimise the risk of hypoglycaemia and gastrointestinal upset.

Side effects

• Hypoglycaemia (low blood sugar)
• Nausea
• diarrhoea and stomach upset
• Altered taste and headache
• Rarely
• lactic acidosis associated with metformin

Precautions

• Consult a doctor or pharmacist before use and stop if irritation or allergy occurs.
• Use with caution in renal or hepatic impairment.
• Monitor blood glucose regularly to avoid hypoglycaemia.
