Glucophage 1000 mg

Indication

Treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus, particularly in overweight patients, when dietary management and exercise alone do not adequately control blood sugar. Metformin lowers blood glucose by reducing hepatic glucose production and improving insulin sensitivity. One film-coated tablet contains 1000 mg metformin hydrochloride, corresponding to 780 mg metformin base.

Direction

For oral use. Take with or after meals. Dosage individualised by the physician; usually started low and increased gradually to reduce gastrointestinal side effects.

• Long
• term use may reduce vitamin B12 absorption

Precautions

• Consult a doctor or pharmacist before use and stop if irritation or allergy occurs.
• Use with caution in renal impairment
• assess renal function before and during treatment.
• Discontinue temporarily before procedures using iodinated contrast media. Prescription only medicine.
