Glucovance 500 mg / 5 mg

Indication

Treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults, as a substitute for combination therapy with metformin and glibenclamide when diet, exercise and metformin or a sulfonylurea alone do not give adequate blood glucose control.

Ingredients

• Metformin hydrochloride 500 mg
• Glibenclamide 5 mg

Direction

Take orally with or immediately after meals, as directed by the physician. The dose is individualised according to blood glucose levels.

Side effects

• May cause hypoglycaemia (low blood sugar)
• gastrointestinal upset such as nausea
• vomiting
• diarrhoea and abdominal pain
• and a metallic taste. Consult a doctor or pharmacist if side effects occur or persist.

Precautions

• Not for use in patients with severe kidney or liver impairment
• or diabetic ketoacidosis. Avoid alcohol. Consult a doctor or pharmacist before use
• especially if pregnant
• breastfeeding or taking other medicines.
