Rocaltrol 0.25 mcg

Indication

Calcitriol is the biologically active form of vitamin D. It is used to manage hypocalcaemia and metabolic bone disease in patients with chronic kidney disease (renal osteodystrophy), hypoparathyroidism, and postmenopausal osteoporosis.

Ingredients

• Calcitriol 0.25 mcg

Direction

Take by mouth as directed by a physician. The usual starting dose is one 0.25 mcg capsule daily, with dose individualised according to serum calcium levels.

Side effects

• May cause symptoms of high blood calcium such as nausea
• vomiting
• loss of appetite
• constipation

Precautions

• Serum calcium must be monitored during treatment. Use with caution in patients on digitalis and avoid additional vitamin D. Please consult a doctor or pharmacist before use.
