Lipiget 20 mg

Indication

A lipid-regulating agent (statin) used to lower elevated total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol and triglycerides and to raise HDL-cholesterol, and to reduce the risk of cardiovascular events in patients with, or at risk of, coronary heart disease.

Ingredients

• Atorvastatin 20 mg (as atorvastatin calcium trihydrate)

Direction

As directed by the physician or see the package insert for full prescribing information. Usual starting dose is one tablet once daily, taken at any time of day with or without food.

Side effects

• Muscle pain
• tenderness or weakness (myalgia)
• Headache
• Nausea
• constipation or diarrhoea
• Raised liver enzymes
• Rarely rhabdomyolysis (severe muscle breakdown)

Precautions

• Consult a doctor or pharmacist before use
• especially with liver disease or a history of muscle disorders
• Report promptly any unexplained muscle pain
• tenderness or weakness
• particularly with fever or malaise
• Avoid large quantities of grapefruit juice and limit alcohol intake
• Do not use during pregnancy or breastfeeding
• Stop use and seek medical advice if severe muscle symptoms
• yellowing of the skin or allergic reaction occurs
