Indication
A fluoroquinolone antibiotic eye/ear drop used to treat bacterial infections of the eye (such as conjunctivitis and corneal ulcers) and ear (otitis externa). It stops bacterial growth by inhibiting the enzymes bacteria need to reproduce.
Ingredients
- Ciprofloxacin (as Hydrochloride) 3 mg/mL (0.3%)
- Phenylmercuric acetate 0.1 mg/5 mL (preservative)
Direction
As directed by the physician. Instill one or two drops into the affected eye(s) 3-6 times daily; the usual course of treatment is 6 to 14 days. Do not touch the dropper tip to any surface. Use within 3 weeks after opening.
Side effects
- Transient burning
- stinging or discomfort in the eye on application
- Temporary blurred vision
- itching or watering of the eye
- White crystalline deposits on the eye surface with prolonged use
- Consult a doctor or pharmacist before use and stop if irritation or allergy occurs
Precautions
- Not recommended for viral or fungal infections of the eye
- Do not wear contact lenses during treatment
- Do not touch the dropper tip to the eye
- ear or any surface to avoid contamination
- For external use only
