Diabetmin 500 mg

Indication

For the treatment of type 2 (non-insulin-dependent) diabetes mellitus, particularly in overweight patients, when diet and exercise alone do not give adequate blood glucose control.

Ingredients

• Metformin hydrochloride 500 mg

Direction

Taken with or after meals to reduce stomach upset. The dose is started low and increased gradually as directed by the doctor.

Side effects

• Gastrointestinal effects such as nausea
• diarrhoea
• abdominal discomfort and metallic taste
• Reduced vitamin B12 absorption with long
• term use
• Very rarely lactic acidosis (a serious metabolic complication)
• Consult a doctor or pharmacist before use and stop if irritation or allergy occurs

Precautions

• Avoid or use with caution in kidney impairment because of the risk of lactic acidosis
• Should be temporarily stopped before surgery or before receiving iodinated contrast media
• Limit alcohol during treatment
