Glucophage 500 mg 500 mg

Indication

Treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus, particularly in overweight patients, when diet and exercise alone do not provide adequate blood glucose control. It may be used alone or combined with other antidiabetic medicines or insulin.

Ingredients

• Metformin hydrochloride 500 mg (corresponding to 390 mg metformin base)

Direction

Take orally with or after meals as directed by a physician. The dose is individualised and usually increased gradually to limit gastrointestinal side effects. Swallow the tablets whole with water. Do not exceed the prescribed dose.

Side effects

• Nausea
• vomiting
• diarrhoea
• abdominal pain and loss of appetite
• especially when starting treatment
• Metallic taste
• Vitamin B12 reduction with long
• term use
• Rarely
• lactic acidosis
• seek urgent medical attention if severe weakness
• muscle pain
• trouble breathing or unusual drowsiness occurs

Precautions

• Tell your doctor if you have kidney or liver problems
• heart failure or a severe infection
• Stop before surgery or procedures using iodinated contrast dye
• as advised by your doctor
• Avoid excessive alcohol intake
• Consult a doctor or pharmacist before use and stop if irritation or allergy occurs
