Indication

Infections due to sensitive germs: acute and chronic bronchopulmonary infections; urogenital infections, in particular prostatic; otitis media; digestive infections, in particular typhoid fever and sigmoiditis; Pneumocystis carinii and Toxoplasma gondii infections. Prevention of Pneumocystis carinii infection in HIV carriers and bone-marrow or organ transplant recipients.

Ingredients

• Sulfamethoxazole
• Trimethoprim

Direction

Take orally, preferably during meals. Usual dose: 1 tablet twice a day. Severe cases: 3 tablets per day. Acute cystitis: 3 tablets in a single dose. Pneumocystis carinii infection: 3 to 6 tablets per day in 3 to 4 doses. Follow the prescribed doses.

Side effects

• May cause nausea
• vomiting or skin rash. Rarely
• serious skin reactions or blood disorders may occur. Stop use and consult a doctor or pharmacist if a rash
• fever or unusual symptoms appear.

Precautions

• Do not use if allergic to sulfonamides
• in severe kidney or liver disease
• or in G6PD deficiency. Avoid in late pregnancy and in newborns. Drink plenty of water. Consult a doctor or pharmacist before use.
