Griseofulvine 500 mg

Indication

Antifungal for dermatological use. Treatment of fungal infections of the skin, hair and nails caused by dermatophytes, including ringworm of the scalp (tinea capitis), body (tinea corporis), groin (tinea cruris), foot (tinea pedis) and nail infections (onychomycosis), when topical treatment is not sufficient.

• Griseofulvin 500 mg

Direction

Oral route. Take with or just after a meal containing fat to improve absorption. The usual adult dose is 500 mg to 1 g daily, in one or divided doses, as prescribed by the physician. Treatment must be continued until the infection is cleared, which may take several weeks for skin and several months for nails. Side effects

• Common: headache
• nausea
• vomiting
• diarrhoea
• abdominal discomfort. Skin rash and urticaria may occur
• photosensitivity reactions (increased sensitivity to sunlight) are possible. Less common: dizziness
• fatigue
• insomnia
• taste disturbance. Rare but serious: severe skin reactions
• liver disturbance and blood disorders such as leucopenia. If you experience any side effects
• consult a doctor or pharmacist.

• only on medical prescription. Comply with the prescribed doses. Contraindicated in pregnancy and in severe liver disease and porphyria. Effective contraception is required during treatment and for one month after for women
• and men should not father a child for six months after treatment. Avoid alcohol and prolonged sun exposure. Griseofulvin may reduce the effect of oral contraceptives and interacts with warfarin and ciclosporin. Keep out of the reach and sight of children. Consult a doctor or pharmacist before use.
