Lostad 50 mg

Indication

Treatment of essential hypertension in adults. Treatment of kidney disease (diabetic nephropathy) in patients with type 2 diabetes and proteinuria. Reduction of the risk of stroke in hypertensive patients with left ventricular hypertrophy. Treatment of chronic heart failure in adults when treatment with ACE inhibitors is not considered suitable.

Ingredients

• Losartan potassium 50 mg

Direction

Oral use. Adults: usual starting dose is 1 tablet (50 mg) once daily; the dose may be increased to 100 mg once daily according to blood pressure response. Patients with intravascular volume depletion or hepatic impairment may require a lower starting dose. Swallow whole with water, with or without food. Take at the same time each day. Follow your doctor's or pharmacist's instructions.

Side effects

• Dizziness and light
• headedness
• especially on standing up
• Low blood pressure (hypotension)
• Increased blood potassium (hyperkalaemia)
• Fatigue and headache
• Consult a doctor or pharmacist if any side effect persists or worsens

Precautions

• Must not be used during pregnancy — tell your doctor immediately if you are or may become pregnant
• Use with caution in renal artery stenosis
• severe renal impairment or hepatic impairment
• Avoid potassium supplements and potassium
• containing salt substitutes unless prescribed
• Correct dehydration or salt depletion before starting treatment
• Consult a doctor or pharmacist before use
