Metro-MS 500 500 mg

Indication

Treatment of amoebiasis (intestinal amoebiasis, asymptomatic amoebiasis and hepatic amoebiasis), trichomoniasis and giardiasis. Also indicated for certain infections caused by anaerobic bacteria such as Clostridium perfringens and Bacteroides fragilis.

Ingredients

• Metronidazole 500 mg

Direction

Acute symptomatic intestinal amoebiasis: adults 2 g as a single dose at the start of a meal; children 30 mg/kg per day as a single dose for one day only. Asymptomatic amoebiasis: the same daily dose for 3 days. Hepatic amoebiasis: adults 1.5 g per day in one or more doses at the start of meals for 5 days. Take the tablets with food. Follow the prescription of a doctor or pharmacist and do not exceed the prescribed dose.

• loss of appetite and abdominal discomfort
• Metallic or unpleasant taste in the mouth
• Headache and dizziness
• Dark or reddish
• brown discolouration of the urine
• Furred tongue
• glossitis or stomatitis
• Rarely allergic skin reactions
• and with prolonged or high
• dose use
• numbness or tingling of the hands and feet
• If any side effect is severe or persists
• consult a doctor or pharmacist

Precautions

• Do not use if you are allergic to metronidazole or other nitroimidazoles
• Do not drink alcohol during treatment and for at least 48 hours after the last dose
• as it may cause flushing
• vomiting and rapid heartbeat
• Use with caution in patients with liver disease
• blood disorders or disorders of the nervous system
• Not recommended during the first trimester of pregnancy
• tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding
• Metronidazole may interact with warfarin
• lithium
• phenytoin and disulfiram — tell your doctor about all medicines you take
• Do not exceed the prescribed dose. Keep out of the reach of children
• Consult a doctor or pharmacist before use
