Metro-MS 250 mg

Indication

An antiprotozoal and antibacterial agent used to treat amoebiasis (intestinal, asymptomatic and hepatic), trichomoniasis and giardiasis, as well as certain anaerobic bacterial infections (Clostridium perfringens, Bacteroides fragilis).

Direction

Amoebic dysentery: children 30-50 mg/kg/day divided into 3 doses; adults 1.5 g/day divided into 3 doses. Giardiasis: children 15 mg/kg/day divided into 3 doses; adults 750 mg/day divided into 3 doses. Trichomoniasis: adults 2 g as a single dose. Take as directed by a doctor or pharmacist.

Side effects

• May cause nausea
• metallic taste
• loss of appetite
• abdominal pain
• headache or dark
• coloured urine. Consult a doctor or pharmacist if any side effects occur.

Precautions

• Do not drink alcohol during treatment and for at least 48 hours afterwards
• as this may cause a severe reaction. Use with caution in patients with liver impairment or blood disorders. Not recommended during the first trimester of pregnancy. Consult a doctor or pharmacist before use.
