Lipiget 40 mg

Indication

Lipid regulating agent. Adjunct to diet to reduce elevated total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, apolipoprotein B and triglycerides in adults with primary hypercholesterolaemia or mixed dyslipidaemia, and to raise HDL-cholesterol. Also used to reduce the risk of cardiovascular events such as heart attack and stroke in patients at increased cardiovascular risk.

Ingredients

• Atorvastatin 40 mg (as atorvastatin calcium trihydrate)

Direction

Oral use. Adults: as directed by the physician. The dose is individualised according to lipid levels and response; the usual range is 10 mg to 80 mg once daily. Swallow whole with water at any time of day, with or without food. Take at the same time each day and continue your recommended diet. Side effects

• Muscle pain
• tenderness or weakness
• Headache and dizziness
• Nausea
• constipation
• diarrhoea or flatulence
• Raised liver enzymes on blood tests
• Consult a doctor or pharmacist if any side effect persists or worsens

Precautions

• Report any unexplained muscle pain
• tenderness or weakness to your doctor promptly
• Must not be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding
• Use with caution in liver disease
• liver function tests may be required
• Avoid large amounts of grapefruit juice and limit alcohol during treatment
• Consult a doctor or pharmacist before use
