Ofni-200 200 mg

Indication

A fluoroquinolone antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections, including infections of the urinary tract, respiratory tract, skin and soft tissue, and certain sexually transmitted infections. Ofloxacin kills bacteria by blocking the enzymes they need to copy their DNA. It does not work against viral infections such as colds or flu.

• Ofloxacin 200 mg

Direction

Prescription drug. Dosage as directed by the physician. Swallow the film-coated tablet whole with a full glass of water. Complete the full course of treatment even if you feel better sooner, to prevent the infection returning and to reduce antibiotic resistance. Do not take within two hours of antacids, iron, zinc or calcium products, which reduce absorption.

Side effects

• dizziness or difficulty sleeping
• Skin rash or itching
• Increased sensitivity of the skin to sunlight
• Uncommonly
• tendon pain
• inflammation or rupture — stop taking the medicine and see a doctor if this occurs
• Rarely
• nerve damage
• changes in mood or behaviour
• or severe allergic reaction

Precautions

• Not to be sold by retail without the prescription of a registered medical practitioner
• Do not use if you are allergic to ofloxacin or other quinolone antibiotics
• or if you have a history of tendon problems with a quinolone
• Use with caution in people with epilepsy or other seizure disorders
• myasthenia gravis
• kidney disease
• or a known heart
• rhythm problem such as prolonged QT interval
• Avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight and sunlamps during treatment
• Generally avoided in children
• adolescents
• pregnancy and breastfeeding unless a doctor decides it is necessary
• tell your doctor about all other medicines you are taking
• Consult a doctor or pharmacist before use if you have any medical condition or take other medicines
