Indication

Treatment of herpes simplex virus infections of the skin and mucous membranes, including genital herpes; suppression and prevention of recurrent herpes simplex infections; and treatment of varicella (chickenpox) and herpes zoster (shingles).

Ingredients

• Aciclovir 400 mg

Direction

Take by mouth with a glass of water. Refer to the package insert for dosage; use exactly as directed by a doctor. Start treatment as early as possible after symptoms appear and drink plenty of fluids during treatment.

Side effects

• May cause nausea
• vomiting
• diarrhoea
• abdominal pain
• headache
• dizziness
• fatigue
• fever or skin rash and itching. If you experience any unwanted effects
• consult a doctor or pharmacist.

Precautions

• On medical prescription only (POM). Do not use if you are allergic to aciclovir or valaciclovir. Tell your doctor if you have kidney problems
• are elderly
• dehydrated
• or have a weakened immune system — the dose may need adjusting. Maintain adequate fluid intake. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or breast
• feeding
• or if you take other medicines. Protect from light and if in doubt
• consult a doctor or pharmacist.
