Aculife Sterilised Water for Injections 5 ml

Indication

Sterile, pyrogen-free solvent used to dissolve or dilute medicines for injection, such as powdered antibiotics in vials. It has no therapeutic action of its own and is used only as a vehicle for other medicinal products.

Ingredients

• Sterilised Water for Injections BP (pyrogen free)

Direction

For use by a healthcare professional only. Draw up the required volume aseptically and use it to reconstitute or dilute the medicine according to that medicine's instructions. Use immediately after opening and discard any unused portion. The volume used depends on the medicine being prepared. Never inject on its own.

Side effects

• As a solvent it has no pharmacological effect of its own
• adverse effects are those of the medicine it is used to dissolve. Injection of sterilised water directly into the bloodstream without a solute is hazardous and can cause haemolysis (destruction of red blood cells). If you experience any adverse effects
• consult a doctor or pharmacist.

Precautions

• Must NOT be administered alone by the intravenous route: sterilised water is hypotonic and direct infusion can cause haemolysis and electrolyte disturbance. Use only as a solvent or diluent
• and only when the medicine to be prepared specifies water for injections. Check the ampoule is clear
• intact and within its expiry date before use
• discard if the solution is cloudy or the ampoule is damaged. Single use only — discard any remaining contents. For use by trained healthcare personnel. Consult a doctor or pharmacist before use.
