Indication
- Rheumatoid arthritis - Severe psoriasis - Juvenile idiopathic arthritis - Maintenance treatment of certain cancers - Crohn's disease (off-label)
Ingredients
- Methotrexate
Direction
Take orally as a single dose once per week on the same day each week. It is critical not to take this medication daily for inflammatory conditions.
Side effects
- Nausea and gastrointestinal upset
- Mouth sores and ulcers
- Fatigue and headache
- Thinning of hair
- Increased liver enzymes
- Bone marrow suppression
Precautions
- Potentially fatal if taken daily
- Contraindicated in pregnancy (highly teratogenic)
- Regular blood count monitoring required
- Periodic liver function tests necessary
- Avoid alcohol during treatment
- Avoid live vaccines while using
