Indication

Sterile isotonic saline given by intravenous infusion to replace body fluid and sodium, for example in dehydration or fluid loss. Also widely used as a carrier or diluent fluid for intravenous medicines. For use by a healthcare professional only.

Direction

For intravenous infusion by a healthcare professional. The dose and infusion rate are determined by the doctor according to the patient's age, weight, clinical condition and fluid and electrolyte balance. Side effects

• Possible reactions include pain
• irritation or inflammation of the vein at the infusion site

Precautions

• For intravenous use only and must be administered by a healthcare professional. Do not use if the container is found leaking upon squeezing or if the solution is not clear
• solutions containing visible solid particles must not be used. Use with caution in people with heart failure
